Network Problem

Postby irfansblog » Thu Dec 10, 2009 7:36 am

Last month I have made three complaints. It seems that all websites hosted on my vps are not responding to outside ping requests. All services are working fine. dns not resolving properly. Can anyone tell me why?

You should open a trouble ticket with this issue. This looks to have been caused by some mistaken Iptables or CSF firewall configuration.

Have you tried to disable CSF ?

As Gallas told CSF blocks services. I don´t recommend CSF ON, just use it for security checking. Keep APF up and CSF / LFD down.

If certain places cannot connect to the server try traceroutes from each place to check if the problem is at your VPS or external network.

I'm sure its a dns matter not a firewall. maybe its the Flow Control Platform that is the root of the problem.

Hi,

It must be resolver issue, you should check your /etc/resolv.conf and see whether you have entered correct resolvers. Either way you can crosscheck it by adding opendns in /etc/resolv.conf to replicate the issue. If everything fails, trouble ticket is best way to get it sorted out.

Thank you.

As you said you can browse the internet, so this is most likely a firewall issue. If you are only using xp's firewall then check the exceptions list, if you are using a 3rd party firewall go into it and find the options to allow certain programs to initiate a connection outside your network. This has nothing to do with your router, unless you specifically configured your router to do so.
