Help - attack of dos

Postby irfansblog » Sat Dec 12, 2009 3:18 pm

Hope posting this post in a correct forum - I've had an unmanaged VPS for a couple of years and I'm very happy with it. Recently I've to contact support about slow server response and I've regularly been told that it is a DOS attack. Does this mean the DOS attack in on my VPS only - or is it my server. If so is there an option for me to switch to another server?

You should first analyze your VPS Hosting control panel, HyperVM or Virtuozzo, and find your bandwidth (traffic) graphs. If you notice very high (and constant) graphs, that means you are probably under a DDoS attack.

But, if your VPS server is hosted at Copahost, there are some firewalls before your VPS node, whenever we find a DDoS we will email you as a customer and let you know what's going on, and what ip(s) should we block then.

It depends more on what you already know. I wouldn't learn a language for the sole purpose of choosing the best one for a DoS attack.

Technically, it can be done with just about any language. If you are starting out fresh, I would recommend VB.net or VB6 for the sole reason that it's so easy to learn.
