Burstable Billing (95%tile)

Mainly in Colocation, burstable billing (or 95th percentile) is done by having the ISP take 5% of bandwidth sampling (36 hrs approxmiately) and gets rid of it. This leaves you with the other 95% on the chart to pay for. . The ISP measures the bandwidth at the router.

As you can see, there are 3 colors. Inbound is green, outbound is blue, and the red line which marks where the ISP cuts off the 5% of sampling.

So on inbound we would throw away anything above the red line as that's the 5% of the month. We would then bill for the red line and below (95%). Our current usage has been measured at 1.27 Mbps for inbound

To get our total bill we then have to add in the outbound which we used 319.55 Kbps

Add the two and you get the 2.62Mbps which you will be billed for the month.
